As it has been for hundreds of years, blacksmiths use fire and hammer to transform iron into something both beautiful and useful.
At Dickison forge, I have been carrying on the tradition by hand crafting fine hawks and knives for more than two decades.
Today, many knives are manufactured from stainless steel or one of the exotic alloys available to knife makers. Using these steels and working them cold on modern grinding machines enables knife makers to produce some very nice pieces of cutlery.
Beginning with the finest tool steels available, I hand forge fixed blade knives and tomahawks. Some of the materials I use started as something else: leaf springs, sawblades, ball bearings, tooling, dies, et cetera. I hold to the idea that good, high carbon steel, properly forged and tempered, makes the finest blades.
